Volunteering
Volunteering at Victory Primary School is a unique and exciting opportunity. The school’s prime location, at the doorstep of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, makes it a desirable place for animal lovers and those who value children and community alike. Volunteers are provided accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner at a small price ($5USD or 18000UGX) to cover the costs of some ingredients. There are also many small restaurants, a supermarket and a fresh fruit and vegetable market in the village if you prefer to explore other meal options or cook for yourself.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park initially existed as Kabatoro and Kayonza crown forest reserves in 1932. The two reserves were amalgamated to form a central crown forest. This was later gazetted as an animal sanctuary in 1961 to protect the endangered mountain Gorillas. It was then upgraded a national park in 1991. The park’s biodiversity is of international significance, and accounts for its conservation status as a world heritage site, and as a world class tourism destination.
While visiting Buhoma, volunteers can be immersed in local culture, learn some local language (Rukiga), go gorilla trekking, hire a bike to ride around town, and learn about the region’s coffee plantations, among many other activities.
If you are interested in volunteering at Victory Primary School by teaching, helping with day to day running of the school, construction, gardening, artwork, or other projects, you can contact the Director via email or WhatsApp, or apply via the link: Volunteer with Us
